Yvonne Faye Armstrong Valentine, 79, a resident of Elkins, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 15, 2015, 2015 at home surrounded by her loving family and friends. She had been in declining health over the past few years and was under the care of Hospice Care in Elkins. Yvonne was born Tuesday, April 28, 1936 in Elkins a daughter of the late Doyle Delbert Armstrong and Georgia Ann Currence Armstrong. On December, 24, 1965 in Elkins she married Russell “Speedy” Valentine who survives in Elkins. Also left to cherish her memory are three children, Susan Serrett and husband Larry of Mill Creek, Katie Channell and husband Ralph of Beverly and Candy Lanham and fiancé Steve Phillips of Belington, one sister, Mary “Ski” Fincham and husband Jack of Mill Creek, seven grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding her in death besides her parents were three siblings, Lavonda “Snookie” Channell and Billy and Paul Armstrong. Yvonne attended the schools of Randolph County. Until her retirement, she was employed in office services and as a switchboard operator at Davis and Elkins College. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of H.W. Daniels Post #29, American Legion. Yvonne enjoyed bowling as well as baking cakes and cooking dinners for her friends and elderly neighbors. The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Farukh Kahn, Deloris Simmons with the in home caretakers at Elkins Senior Center, Helen Lambert, Jaime Johnson, Kim Rugemer and Mindy Simmons. Yvonne’s request for cremation was honored. A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 20, 2015 at 7:30P. Pastor Rick Price will officiate.
