Yvonne McCoy Lothes, age 89 years, a resident of Montrose, WV since 1952, departed this life Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at her home, being loved and cared for by her children. Death was attributed to leukemia.
Mrs. Lothes was born January 14, 1924 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, a daughter of the late Reeder and Cecile Monroe McCoy. She graduated from High School in Washington, Pennsylvania and was also a graduate of Shenandoah College in Harrisburg, Virginia. On January 20, 1945 in Elkins, she married the love of her life, Dr. Neil A. Lothes, who preceded her in death, February 20, 2001. They had celebrated 56 years of marriage.
Mrs. Lothes is survived by her 10 children, Ed Lothes and wife Irene of Elkins, Rebecca Miller and husband Arlis of Parkersburg, Debby Scarberry and husband Sam of Montrose, Joe Lothes and wife Jane of St. Albans, Regina Oldaker and husband David of Kerens, Trish Briscoe of Hagerstown, MD, Cathy Lothes of Charleston, Jenny Hall of Charleston, Teresa Weaver and husband Michael of Mt. Clare, and George Lothes and wife Carla of Montrose. Also surviving are 35 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren and her beloved dog, Maggie.
She was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Ann Cecile; one brother and sister-in-law Wayne and Pauline McCoy, one son-in-law Ernest Briscoe and one great grandson, Tristan Smith.
Mrs. Lothes was a dental assistant for her husband, a 4-h Leader and All-star, and a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and Ladies Guild in Parsons.
Her love for her children is legendary – her sense of humor never wavered. She enjoyed camping and was artistically talented, she sewed, crocheted, gardened, was a noted cook for family and friends. She opened her home as she opened her heart.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 9 PM, Friday. On Saturday, November 9, 2013, Mrs. Lothes will be moved to Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Parsons, WV where friends may call from 10:00 to 11:30 am. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30am. The Rev. Father Stephen Vallelonga and the Rev. Mr. Raymond G. Godwin will be the presiders and interment will follow at the Lothes Family Cemetery in Montrose.
