Zettie Ann Knarr White 1941-2003 Obituary
Zettie Ann Knarr White, 82, a resident of 409 10th St., Elkins, departed this life Tuesday evening, June 3, 2003, at the Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1920, at Norton, a daughter of the late Orrin Knarr and Ida Miller Knarr.
On Aug. 31, 1941, she married Herschel G. White Sr., who preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1993, after 51 years of marriage.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Harry Dean (Mary L.) Jordan of Amherstdale; and one son, Herschel G. White II, and wife, Vickie, of Elkins; two sisters, Bertha Stemple of Elkins Regional Convalescent Center and Alice Johnson of McElhatten, Pa.; six grandchildren, Nicole, Justin and Christopher White of Elkins, Valerie Jordan of Pittsburgh, Pa., Lori McDaniels of Blacksburg, S.C., and David Boone of Gaffney, S.C., seven great-grandchildren, Joey, Zachery and Bailey McDaniels of Blacksburg, S.C., Mary and Amy Russell of Cheyenne, Wyo., Kristin and Ashley Moreland of Amherstdale; one sister-in-law, Kathleen Stonestreet of Petersburg; and one brother-in-law, Daniel J. White of Bunkerhill.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Minnie Knarr; and two brothers, Oscar and Glen Knarr.
She attended the schools of Tucker County. During World War II, she worked in Baltimore, Md., at the American Hammered Piston Ring Factory for 3 1/2 years. After returning to Elkins, she worked at the W.T. Grant Store for 24 years and at Kmart for 10 years, where she retired in 1985. In 1993, she became a member of the Foster Grandparent Program serving there for 10 years. She loved to work with children. She was a member of the Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church, had been a member of the administration board and was a member of the Randolph County Senior Center.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday. Final Rites will be conducted at the Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Donald L. Lockhart and the Rev. Dr. Daniel Bryan will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of flowers or memorial contributions to the Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church Youth Fund, 113 First St., Elkins, W.Va. 26241.
